At Horizon Kids Nursery we are passionate about quality provision in the early years. We recognise that children grow and develop differently and we support each child based on their individual needs and requirements. We follow the British Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum which runs from birth until the end of Foundation 1. The EYFS frame work states that ‘every child deserves the best start in life’. We at Horizon Kids Nursery firmly agree with this and by following the EYFS framework we support and enable each child to reach their full potential.
The EYFS is made up of 3 Prime Areas of Learning and Development,
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development, this includes making relationships, self-confidence and self-awareness and managing feelings and behaviour.
- Physical Development, this includes gross and fine motor development and health and self-care.
- Communication and Language, this includes speaking and listening, attention and understanding.
These 3 Prime Areas are fundamental to every child’s development. They work together and support the development of the 4 Specific Areas,
- Literacy, this includes reading and writing.
- Mathematics, this includes numbers, shape, space and measure.
- Understanding the World, this includes people and communities, the world and technology
- Expressive arts and design, this includes exploring and using media and materials and being imaginative.
These 4 Specific Areas include the essential life skills and knowledge that all children need to participate effectively in today’s society.
At Horizon Kids Nursery the children are guided through carefully planned learning scenarios which lead them to being able to take ownership of their learning and play developing their own strategies for problem solving, challenge and risk taking. Collaborating with others and thinking critically in a safe stimulating environment which is language rich and underpins learning and development in all areas.
As a member of the National Day Nursery Association (NDNA) we are able to share good practice and ideas with Nurseries not only here in Middle East but all over the UK. Ensuring that we are up to date with any changes in the provision requirements of best practice of high quality nurseries.
NDNA’s Early Years Advisers all have many years of in-depth experience in early years practice, and keep abreast of new childcare developments and research, which puts them in the best position to give advice and support to us as one of its members on all kinds of childcare issues, and to promote the highest quality standards.
We are very pleased to say that Horizon Kids Nursery is using Tapestry which is an on-line journal especially linked to the EYFS.
Our classrooms and learning areas are fun-packed and busy and there's so much for children to do, learn and take in. Tapestry helps us to record, track and celebrate your children's progress in their early year’s educational journey. It enhances this special time, helping us, as practitioners, to capture your child's experiences as well as monitor their development and learning. This enables us plan accurately ensuring each child reaches their full potential.
Arabic in the Early Years
Here at Horizon Kids Nursery we feel that it is really important that our children learn to speak the language of the country in which they live. So with this in mind we have developed our own unique ‘EYFS Arabic’! As the bases of the EYFS curriculum is learning through play this is exactly what our children do as they learn Arabic. Miss Haidy teaches the children classic Arabic through stories and rhymes, messy play and role play, music and dance. Miss Haidy facilitates all the areas of learning from the EYFS.
